Ahh, I certainly love a date night with a lover.
Whether it’s something sweet, spicy, or even a little silly, spending time with the people we love is essential for not only forming strong bonds but also the secret sauce to living a happy lifestyle.
For any kind of relationship, the secret ingredient to keeping the spark exciting and interesting is by surprising one another.
Trying new things, taking each other out on dates, and being interested in each other’s curiosities and interests.
Just because you’ve been together forever doesn’t mean there isn’t always more to learn about each other.
And to be honest, although I created this list with a lover in mind, you can do any of these with your bff, family, group of friends, or even on your own.
After all, the longest and most intimate relationship we have is with ourselves.
But anyway, if you live in Denver, Colorado then you know it gets a little tricky to come up with date night ideas other than a brewery tour or ax throwing (still very fun though).
Sometimes, even in an outdoorsy state like Colorado, it’s so nice to get dressed up, get a little romantic, and shake things up.
So if you’d like to see my list of 12 Unique Date Night Ideas in Denver, then continue to the list below!
Love,
Anastasiya
Date Night in Denver
- Stargazing
Yes, it’s as magical as it seems.
Pack your car up with delicious drinks and snacks, grab some blankets, and some warm clothes, and be mesmerized by the spectacular night sky.
We’re used to thinking you have to travel as far North as possible to see a beautiful, mind-blowing night sky, but Colorado is known for being an epic center for astronomy and stargazing.
The best part is that you don’t need to travel hours into a remote area to do so either. You can travel 30 minutes outside of the city and end up somewhere galactic.
This is my favorite date idea. And trust me, soon it’ll be yours too!
It’s cozy, romantic, adventurous, and absolutely unique.
Plus, it costs you almost nothing, just a full tank of gas…and some chocolates for your hunny.
A few of my personal favorite spots to venture to for a late-night stargazing sesh are Lookout Mountain, Red Rocks, and Boulder.
And if you’re a galaxy lover like me and want to take your stargazing to the next level, visit this site here to learn more about the International Dark Sky Community and fantastic observatories.
- Overnight Trip
Consider taking your date night up a notch and book an overnight trip.
There are tons of incredible options for an overnight trip in Colorado, especially as a quick, romantic staycation.
Colorado is ideal to explore in any season, seriously. Each season brings a unique landscape, vibrant colors, and beautiful scenery.
You can’t go wrong with an overnight stay, whether you’ve been planning it for months or a spontaneous decision. I love to book an Airbnb or stay at a cozy hotel, depending on my interests for the weekend.
I love to stay overnight in Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge, or Boulder. Other than Aspen, all of these cities are within 2 hours of Denver.
Perfect drive for an overnight stay.
- Romantic Dinner in Downtown
The classic date night idea that will never go out of style.
If you’re not feeling up to doing anything too adventurous, or just want to spend some quality time together, then consider making a reservation at a restaurant you’ve had on your bucket list.
Whether you’ve been together for 8 weeks, months, or years, it always feels refreshing and exciting to see each other looking extra put-together.
And consider going somewhere out-of-your-ordinary rotation of restaurants. It’s nice to jazz things up, try new cuisines, and discover new favorite places together.
By the way, a romantic dinner doesn’t have to mean fine dining or a 5-star meal…
Just a little something you can dress up for.
- Comedy Works
There’s no better way to break the ice than with a good belly laugh.
Comedy Works may not be the first place you think of when it comes to romance, but from my experience, you don’t always need a white tablecloth or candles to feel butterflies.
Maybe this is a 3rd date, or your 3rd anniversary, regardless, sometimes what our relationships need most is fun and a little silliness.
The original location in downtown Denver has been open since 1981 and has operated downstairs in the basement of the Granite Building. A truly cool, cave-like experience.
The shows are raw, hilarious, and involve the crowd throughout the show. You can enjoy weeknight shows like New Talent Night or Thick Skin, or get tickets for a headliner.
- Late Night Drinks
Grab your LBD and a little sparkly eyeshadow, and head on out for some late-night drinks.
Seriously, is there anything sexier? There are a ton of bars in Denver that offer unique themes, beautiful drinks, and enchanting atmospheres. It’s exciting to step into a different world for the night; it brings out different versions of us.
My favorite bars are speakeasies, the ideal spot for specially crafted cocktails, delicious midnight snacks, and feeling intimate with your company.
Whether you’re looking for an upbeat bar inside an ice cream shop, an undercover book store, or a beautiful burlesque show, Denver’s got it.
- Dance The Night Away
Some of the best nights of my life happened on the dance floor.
You may not feel comfortable dancing, but let me tell you, it doesn’t matter how you look, or if you’re any good.
Having a night of pure fun, letting loose dancing with someone you love, or even getting to know, is one of the best ways to bond and break down walls, and just have a one-of-a-kind, fearless night.
My go-to for a guaranteed night of excitement is La Rumba, Denver’s destination for Latin nightlife.
It’s high energy and welcoming to all, and you don’t need to know salsa in order to jump right in.
Even if you don’t get on the dance floor, just being there, surrounded by the incredible dancing, music, and energy will make you feel full of life.
- Picnic in the Park
Simple, but always a joy, a peaceful picnic at your favorite park, perfect at sunrise or sunset.
When I feel like I need a reset, or want to spend some time outside with my lover, I love gathering my favorite drinks, snacks, and picnic blankets, and finding the perfect spot under a large, shady tree with a beautiful view.
It’s such a nice way to spend uninterrupted time with your date, whether you’re reconnecting after a busy week, or testing the waters with a new potential relationship – especially if you don’t want to do a full-blown dinner date yet.
And since Colorado has over 300 days of sunshine, you can literally enjoy a day at the park all year round.
My all-time favorite park for a lovely picnic is City Park. Specifically next to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. You’ll not only have the most luscious grass to sit on, but you’ll have the best view of Denver.
- Adventure Day
If you’re anything like me, then you love a good day of adventure.
What I really appreciate about Colorado is that this entire state is an outdoor playground. If you’re not too into an upscale dinner or going out on the town, then I strongly encourage you to research some epic adventures you can do for your date night (or day!).
Some activities you can look into are a sunset hike, White Water Tubing down the Boulder Creek, a Star Party at Garden of the Gods, or indoor rock climbing at Movement.
The list goes on and on.
- The Movies
An oldie, but a goody…going to the movies.
I go to the movies at least once a month, depending on what’s playing, and every time I go, I always know I’m going to have a great time.
Now, whether or not you’re a Cinephile (film enthusiast) like me, there’s a movie out there for everyone to enjoy. But, the most important aspect of going out to the movies is finding the right movie theater for the ultimate experience, for both of you.
I’m a loyal customer of the Alamo Drafthouse. I will never pay to go to another movie theater ever again because the Alamo has it all, and then some. And every time I take someone here, we always have a great time together because it’s not just watching a movie, it’s an entire experience.
Every single person that works there LOVES film.
Their mission is not to be another multiplex, they are passionate about celebrating cinema, crafting and pairing DELICIOUS menus to films (they curate special menus for big upcoming blockbusters – like Black Panther, and classic cinema), and what I respect most (and what keeps me coming back, other than their milkshakes) is their Code of Conduct.
There is zero tolerance for talking or using a cell phone of any kind during the film. They’ll kick you out.
If you’re a lover of cinema, or even want to just eat some fantastic food while watching a movie you’ve been waiting to see, then please, do me a favor and visit the Alamo for your next date night at the movies.
- Gourmet Cooking Class
It’s always a romantic idea to learn how to cook with the person you love most.
Or, as a fun, light-hearted way to get to know someone new. Whether you’re a beginner in the kitchen or a seasoned pro, there’s always room to learn more.
And with Denver consistently growing its cultural cuisine, there are plenty of classes spread throughout the city that you can reserve for your next date night.
Plus, with your new culinary experience, you can take your technique home and enjoy gourmet nights at home!

- Be Inspired at The Theater
If you’re looking for something out-of-the-ordinary and enchanting, consider visiting the Denver Center for Performing Arts.
The DCPA is a beautiful complex in itself, but if you have the opportunity to attend a performance, then I highly recommend doing so.
Shows from across the country visit the DCPA, from the award-winning Broadway musical Mean Girls to the holiday classic A Christmas Carol, and masterwork like To Kill a Mockingbird, there’s something brilliant, hilarious, and inspiring for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re not particularly interested in plays yet, then the DCPA also has lecture series, panel discussions, and many more events in constant rotation.
Don’t forget, learning something new is sexy!
- Get Competitive
My favorite way to spend date night? Getting competitive.
No better way to have fun than by playfully battling against one another…
There’s just something exciting about challenging a lover, or potential lover, in an intense game of skill, adrenaline, and childhood games.
Dave and Buster’s is always a go-to, but here are some of my other favorites on my list:
